Islamabad: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) hosted a high-level delegation from Türkiye which included Vice Chancellors and Rectors of some of the best universities of Türkiye and high-ranking officials from the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye to discuss various opportunities for further academic and institutional collaboration between Pakistan and Türkiye.
On the occasion also attended was H.E. Irfan Neziroğlu, the Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, who stressed the significance of the creation of closer educational and academic ties between the two countries. Welcoming the distinguished delegation, Rector NUST Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif highlighted the significance of further strengthening institutional linkages between Pakistan and Türkiye. He stressed the importance of promoting effective partnerships in areas of common interest and developing possibilities for continued cooperation between HEIs.
The session was an opportunity
for the two sides to share their views on fostering academic and research
partnership. The issues discussed included deepening institutional connections facilitating
faculty and student exchange and engaging in collaborative research and
teaching activities. The participants also discussed the possibilities of
strengthening the cooperation ties of NUST and the top Turkish universities on
a deeper and more sustainable level. Such collaboration can provide avenues for
universities to share expertise, facilitate academic exchanges and work
together on initiatives of mutual interest.
At the same event Turkish
participants toured NUST's H-12 campus and gained knowledge about NUST's
academic, research, innovation and student facilities. On this visit, the
delegation visited the National Science & Technology Park (NSTP) School of
Interdisciplinary Engineering & Sciences (SINES), Center for Emerging
Technologies (CEMTECH) and NUST's comprehensive sports complex. During the
campus visit the delegation had the opportunity to gain insight into the work
NUST is doing to foster interdisciplinary education, emerging technologies,
innovation and a full student experience.
The visit reflected the growing
and strong cooperation between NUST and the higher education institutions in
Türkiye. It also offered a good forum for further conversation and thinking
about how to build and strengthen institutional relationships for the long
term. The event marks the potential areas for cooperation in higher education
between Pakistan and Türkiye including academic exchanges, joint research,
faculty and student mobility and joint initiatives. Such institutional
cooperation among universities in the two countries could also be continued to
facilitate knowledge transfer and deeper academic ties.
